Water Monitoring
Every month the FLFR team tests water quality on the river and some of its tributaries.
In this effort FLFR collaborates with Alabama Water Watch (AWW), and Black Warrior Riverkeeper. Continuous testing, over the past 26 years, has created a valuable database -- both bacteriological and chemical.
FLFR currently monitors water quality on the Blackburn Fork, Taylor Ford, Mardis Mill Falls, Graves Creek and County 26 Bridge and by the Scenic Overlook Park -- Hwy 26 Bridge.

More monitors mean more data at more sites! Learn more about volunteer monitoring from AWW. If you are interested in joining FLFR’s water monitoring team:
Alabama Water Watch is a citizen-volunteer water quality monitoring program, covering all of the major river basins of the state. The mission of AWW is to improve both water quality and water policy through citizen monitoring and action.
AWW uses EPA-approved monitoring protocol. With a “data-to-action” focus, AWW helps volunteers collect, analyze, and understand their data to make positive impact. |
Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s mission is to protect and restore the Black Warrior River and its tributaries - one of which is the Locust Fork.
BWRK is a citizen-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving water quality, habitat, recreation, and public health throughout our patrol area, the Black Warrior River watershed. This vital river basin is entirely contained within Alabama, America’s leading state for freshwater biodiversity. |
