Photo Contest - General information:
- The Photo Contest is open to Adults and Teens (13 - 19 years old).
- Six entries per person will be accepted April 1 - June 30, 2023. The six entries can be a combination of photos or artwork from any of the categories and about Blount County. Or short video-clips - theme “Enjoy the River”.
- There is no entry fee.
- To submit entries: 1) Register at FLFR.org 2) Email jpeg entries to [email protected].

- Animals in Nature, for example: armadillos, beavers, chipmunks, deer, foxes, otters, possums, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, etc. Locust Fork Family Dentistry

- PIN - People and/or Pets in Nature: activities along the river, lakes, its tributaries, waterfalls, or woods: bicycling, swimming, jumping, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking or walking, camping, picnicking, etc Black Warrior Riverkeeper
- Roots & Shoots, ie: wildflowers, foliage, mushrooms, moss & trees in the wild. Stifel Investments
- Sun-basking Creatures, for example: frogs, lizards, snakes, toads, terrapins and turtles. Huntsville Canoe Club
Rules for Photo Contest:
To submit your photographs:
- Register your name and information: Go to FLFR.org and click on: 2023 Art,Photo & Video Contest. Upon registration, you will be assigned a transaction ID#.
- Email your name, age, transaction ID #, category, title of each photo, location and the jpeg files, to [email protected]. For example: Jane Doe, 34, ID# 000007, Birds & Raptors, Red Wing Hawk, at Swann Covered Bridge.
- Entries will be accepted April 1 - June 30, 2023.
- Each person may submit up to 6 entries. Details at the top under General Information, #2.
- Photos may be color, or black & white.
- Photos must have been taken in 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023.
- Eligible format is high-resolution digital images, jpeg. If you email from your phone do not reduce the size. File size is limited to 10 MB.
- Submitted photos should not have a visible name, date, border or any type of watermark.
- Minor adjustments of color/contrast, sharpening, spotting, dodging and burning are acceptable.
- Photographs manipulated for artistic purposes by applying special effects such as collage, photo composites or HDR are not acceptable and will be disqualified.
Judging:
- Judges will make selections based on 1) originality, 2) technical excellence, 3) outstanding representation of the subject, 4) composition and 5) the story they tell.
- All submissions will be numbered & judged anonymously.
- The judges reserve the right to decide whether a category contains work that merits an award.
Photo Contest participants agree and certify the following:
- Photos were taken by the person whose name is on the registration.
- Photos were taken in Blount County, Alabama.
- Photos were taken in 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023.
- By submitting a contest entry, you grant permission to Friends of the Locust Fork River, any major donor of the contest, or sponsor of a Business Choice Award, to use your contest entry online and in print, and to distribute it through media including print, digital, online services and television. Nevertheless, you retain the right to use your contest entry in any way you choose.
- By submitting a contest entry, you assert you have obtained the consent of all identifiable persons to use their likenesses in your contest entry. Disregard this rule if the subjects in the photo are not identifiable.
- If your entry wins 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, or a Business Choice Award, you agree that your photo and a selfie will be printed on banners and displayed at various locations in Blount County.
- If you win you agree to be recorded for a short video clip about yourself that will be uploaded to FLFR's Youtube channel, Facebook and Instagram.
Notification & Award Ceremony:
- Winners will be notified by email no later than August 31, 2023.
- Prizes will be awarded to each winning photographer at the Awards Ceremony in the fall.
