Taylor Riverside Park
a FLFR project, completed 2024
address: Bridge on CR 26 and Dunn Ln, Blountsville, AL 35031 Google: 34.067667, -86.494222
In April 2024, FLFR transferred its ownership of Taylor Riverside Park to Blount County, at no cost, to be maintained by the County as a public access point to the Locust Fork River at the Highway 26 river crossing.
The park is on the Alabama Scenic River Trail at the head of the renowned 12-mile river section extending to Kings Bend Scenic Overlook. This amazing section has rock bluffs, shoals, small rapids, great biodiversity and a multitude of native species vegetation. Paddlers prize this section as do anglers for its excellent sports fishing. Taylor Riverside Park provides an important, safe, public access point to the Locust Fork River and corrects surface water runoff from the highway that was eroding the stream bank. The park now has a flat parking area, a stone staircase down to the river and a kayak and canoe ramp, 2 picnic tables and 2 benches to sit and enjoy the view.
The boat ramp is NOT intended for human use, the river is usually shallow with rocks at the base of the boat ramp.
FLFR is grateful to EBSCO Industries ebscoind.com, CAWACO RC&D cawaco.org, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham cfbham.org Holle Family Foundation, Alabama Scenic River Trail alabamascenicrivertrail.com and the town of Blountsville for providing generous grants for the project. FLFR is also grateful to the Taylor family for donating the land and to many generous individual donors who stepped up to help fund this project.
FLFR expresses gratitude to the Blount County Commission, to Chris Green, probate judge, and Chad Trammel, District #2 Commissioner, for fast-tracking this project and accepting ownership on behalf of the County for the benefit of the community and all who enjoy this river access point in the future.
The benches were donated by Jamie & Susan Finley, and the McIntyre Family.
Wilbanks Engineering & Environmental Solutions, LLC, known throughout the Southeastern U.S. for its expertise, conducted the construction portion of the project.
