Dear Friend & fellow river lover,
Thank you for your involvement and support for FLFR in a journey that began in 1991, to protect this natural treasure and educate the public on why it’s so special. As a mostly volunteer based organization, your support makes possible the great activities, achievements, and future goals of FLFR. With the help and enthusiasm of our volunteers, we have more going on every year. Take a look!

A total of 969 kids and adults participated in Kids’ Day on the River and FLFR’s days of fun and learning for local summer school children. At these events, our volunteers served a total of 634 hours!
FLFR also gave 160 children’s books, free of charge, to local families participating in reading programs as well as four exciting nature programs for the public at the Blountsville and Oneonta Public Libraries.

FLFR volunteers test water quality monthly at many locations in the county

Most recently, FLFR has created a successful, replicable plan to open public access locations on the river. Thanks to an ongoing relationship with the Blount County Commission, several major grants, donated parcels of land, and your generous financial gifts, we opened Taylor Riverside Park in April 2024. In 2025, we inaugurated Bruce Phillips River Park on September 27th. For 2026, our goal is to create a public access point at Swann River Park.
All these projects include professional river-scaping of the river bank, creation of a parking area, installation of a stone staircase to the water, a handrail, a kayak/canoe ramp, a picnic table and benches. These new river parks are family-friendly places for local residents and tourists alike, and they will be maintained by Blount County Commissioners.
Congratulations to the 2025 Art, Photo, Video and Poetry winners
