Alabama Cup Racing Association –
a coalition is born

A visionary group of paddlers, river advocates, and canoe club members have joined forces into the Alabama Cup Racing Association (ACRA). Our mission as a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization is to preserve, protect, and promote whitewater racing in Alabama.
RACES
The Alabama Cup Whitewater Slalom Canoe and Kayak Race series consists of three annual races:
- the Locust Fork Invitational,
- the Mulberry Canoe/Kayak Race,
- the Locust Fork Whitewater Classic.
ACRA plans to promote the Alabama Cup as well as the sport as a whole.
OFFICERS Current officers are:
- Mark Travis, president,
- Tony Diliberto, vice president,
- Nancy Cate, treasurer, and
- Sam Howell, secretary.
- Stephen Guesman the go-to man.
A board of decision-making representativesfrom paddling clubs, organizations, and communities statewide will develop.
BREWING
For some years the racing community has wanted to synergize the Mulberry Fork races with the Locust Fork Racing Organization. We intend for each race to maintain autonomy, while consolidating strengths and expenses.
YOUR INPUT
The membership of ACRA brings a lot of experience, from race marshals to avid paddlers, but we need the help and energy of many more to make this idea work. As you participate in the 2010 races either as racer, volunteer, or spectator, notice the changes, and share your ideas with ACRA members on how to work together to preserve, protect, and promote whitewater racing in Alabama.
