A LOCAL AND NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POETRY AND ART CONTEST
Hundreds of Blount County Students have entered this contest by exploring the rivers, lakes, and streams of Alabama—or the puddles and ponds of their own backyards— and express what they discover, through poetry and/or art including photography.
There are four grade-level categories: K-2, 3-6, 7-9, 10-12 or children aged 5-19 bein schooled. Grand prize winners receive a trip to Washington, DC for the winner and one parent/guardian. Friends of the Locust Fork River sponsors the local contest with cash prizes and judges selected winners from all Blounty County entries and awards.
Individuals or group/class applications forms and further details about how to apply are available at www.riverofwords.org. Entering the national contest means automatic registation in the local contest. National Awards are made in April 2012. Blount County winners will be notified in May or June.
