EARTH MONTH GRANT AWARDED TO BLOUNT COUNTY TEACHERS from
A five hundred dollar Earth Month Sponsorship grant inspired creativity, trashy activities, a recycling rap, and spiffed up a couple of outdoor classrooms and school grounds with spring plantings.
The Earth Month Grant was awarded to Friends of the Locust Fork River by Legacy through the sale of its environmental license plates.

The ambitious project written by Sherry Brewer, 7th and 8th grade English and Language Arts at Locust Fork High and Nancy Caffee, 8th grade Science instructor at Cleveland High created a Powerpoint on recycling sent to all teachers in Blount County with suggested lesson plans on the three Rs--reduce, reuse, and recycle and encouraged Earth Day activities. A countywide poster contest was also part of the project. Poster contest winners:
- 1st Place: Carissa Barrios, 8th Grade, Cleveland High
- 2nd Place: Bella Speegle, 8th Grade, Locust Fork High
- 3rd Place: Anna Ferry, 7th Grade, Cleveland High
